All the children were attending parochial school. In the 1930 census, John was 45 years old and born in Pennsylvania. Both his parents were born in Germany. He married at age 24 years. He worked as a Blacksmith and owned his own shop. He lived with his wife and 2 sons at 387 West Main Street, Plymouth Borough, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. He was renting his home for $30 a month.
