FIRST GENERATION



James Everhart
was born about 1878 in Germany.  He emigrated in 1883 or1884 and, in 1891, became a naturalized U.S. citizen. 

James Everhart married Gertrude Jolley about 1901.  Gertrude Jolley was born about 1882 in Pennsylvania.  Both her parents were born in Pennsylvania.

James was a coal miner, and in the 1910 census he lived, with his wife and 2 children, on Evans Street, Pringle Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.  His father-in-law, Edward Jolley, also lived with them.

In the 1920 census, the family was living at 206 Morgan Street, Courtdale Borough, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.  James was still working as a coal miner.  He owned his home free of mortgage.

In the 1930 census, James was 52 years old.  He married at age 23 years.  He was working as a laborer on borough roads.  The family was living at 208 Cooper Street, Courtdale Borough, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.

James Everhart and Gertrude Jolley had the following known children:

i. George Everhart Abt. 1902 - died between 1920 & 1930
ii. Francis J. Everhart 2 Dec 1904 - 22 Nov 1986
iv. James Everhart Abt. 1912 - ????
